Project Engineer


Job Description
The project engineer (PE) bridges the boundaries between engineering and project management. The PE acts as a liaison between the project manager and the technical disciplines involved in a project. Excellent accounting, verbal and written skills are essential. The PE will be expected to practice professionalism, integrity, and courtesy at all times; participate in and contribute to the construction industry by developing the respect of our customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers, subcontractors, and the community.

The Project Engineer’s duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following activities in accordance with dcb’s construction policies and procedures, or as directed by the Construction Manager:

-Develops submittal log, participate in subcontractor project orientation meetings, communicate and coordinate submittals and coordination drawings with subcontractors and the Superintendent
-Responsible for proactive administration of reviewing and processing all submittal data and shop drawings to ensure project schedules are expedited and materials are delivered on time
-Participates in preconstruction meetings with subcontractors
-Attends and participates in meetings with Architect/Engineer and owner representatives, provides information and assists the Project Manager in the preparation of progress reports/meeting minutes
-Distributes proposal change documents to subcontractors/suppliers and assists in collecting pricing and/or prepares change proposal requests for internal pricing review
-Ensures all clarifications, changes, directives, RFIs, etc., are updated on the “as-built” drawings and are fully coordinated with company supervision and all subcontractor/suppliers
-Responsible for submitting owner required close-out documents and assisting subcontractors/suppliers in scheduling owner required training and documentation
-Reviews submittals for the interpretation of the field members
-Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with project manager.

Education and Experience:
The Project Engineer must be highly proficient with Timberline, Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook and Project Software. In addition the PE must have the ability to read plans. This position requires a degree in Construction Management, Engineering or a related field position with 2 years minimum experience. The person in this position must excel in the areas of scheduling and cost estimate. The PE must also have a solid background in the administrative, technical skills, and be able to successfully handle multiple tasks at the same time.

Job Description
-Coordinate and control all labor, equipment, and materials associated with projects.
-Direct and assume responsibility for all field construction functions.
-Working knowledge and understanding of subcontracts, work orders and purchase orders.
-Develop the respect of our customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers, subcontractors, and the community.

-Coordinate staffing of field employees with the PM
-Provide solid management and leadership to the project field team.
-Plan, organize, and schedule all subcontractors, vendors, and material deliveries integral to successful completion of a project.
-Communicate with the PM on all conflicts or changes associated with the project.
-Assist the PM with project meetings as required.
-Oversee scheduling and assurance of passage of all testing and inspections.
-Maintain a daily site documentation, and provide it to the PM
-Enforce safety policies; lead by example on all projects.
-Adhere to jobsite safety regulations and practices per OSHA and dcb standards.
-Supervise timely completion of all punchlist items so as to meet project schedule and budget.

Education and Experience:
A minimum of 5 years successful field experience, in the Commercial/Industrial Construction business with a preferred specialty in Self Storage Projects. Must excel at scheduling and supervising daily jobsite activities, quality control, and jobsite safety policies.  Must have a solid background in administrative aspects of project supervision, possess team building skills, and supervise multiple tasks and employees. Must understand and use Microsoft Suite software including Excel, Word, and Project as well as Sage 300 / Timberline.
